The History of Valavanadeesar Temple

Sunday, March 29, 2009

The Valavanadeesar Temple has been in existence even before the 13th Centure A.D. This was found from the inscriptions on the wall of the temple.

Also found from the inscriptions was found the fact that from that period the first Sambuvaraya King had endowed the temple with lands etc. with tax remissions.

During the subsequent periods of Pallavas, Cholas, Vijayanagaras, Naikers Dynasties also the kings had great faith in Lord Valavanathar and hence repeatedly endowed the temple with Lands, villages, money tax remissions etc.

The temple had people worshipping Saptakannikas, Dakshinamurthy, Mahishasura Mardini, Kotravai, Dancing Ganesha etc.

Now except the main deity, Lord Valavanadeesar and Mother Brihannayaki, the other statutues have been broken and thrown here and there around the temple.

The present condition of this once glorious Temples is very bad and requires immediate repairs.

To restore this temple, the Sri Valavanadeesar Trust has been created with the aim of renovating old temples and the first task before this Trust is to restore Valavanadeesar Temple to its pristine Glory.
